The Role: Impact & Leadership
As a vital member of the Assessment and Collections Department, you will serve as the lead office support person, ensuring statutory responsibilities of the office are met with precision. This is a dynamic role that blends administrative leadership, data management (CAMA), and field=based appraisal work.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Leadership & Support: Act as the lead assistant for clerical staff and assist the Director in daily operations.
- Property Assessment: Conduct physical inspections to measure and value real and personal property, including properties under construction.
- Data Management: Update and maintain the CAMA (Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal) system, enter building permits, and interpret building plans.
- Taxpayer Advocacy: Process tax relief and exemptions, assisting the public with applications and interpreting state statutes and local ordinances.
- The Grand List: Participate in the discovery and listing of all taxable property to establish the annual Grand List.
- Compliance: Maintain and dispose of records in accordance with State of Connecticut retention standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with data processing, computerized assessment databases, and CAMA systems.
- Field Knowledge: Ability to perform field inspections and comprehend architectural/building plans.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills for assisting taxpayers and training new personnel.
- Expertise: Familiarity with CT State Statutes and appraisal principles is highly preferred.
